    1760 Hibernia-Voce Populi Farthing
    MS63 Brown

    Nelson-1, Large Letters

1760 FARTH Hibernia-Voce Populi Farthing, Large Letters MS63 Brown PCGS. CAC. Nelson-1, W-13800, R.5. Die alignment 150°. Among the finest known examples of this enigmatic coinage, struck for use in Ireland but occasionally encountered in this country. Exceptionally preserved, with mostly smooth surfaces and pleasing coloration. The clash mark at the top of the obverse is seen on all examples. Better centered than many, though a touch off-center toward 5 o'clock. Describing the Voce Populi coinage in 1905, Philip Nelson opined that the farthings were "of rather superior execution" to the halfpennies. Listed on page 51 of the 2018 Guide Book. Population: 2 in 63 Brown, 1 finer. CAC: 1 in 63, 0 finer (10/17).
Ex: Los Angeles Signature (Heritage, 8/2009), lot 8.
