Description
1773 Virginia Halfpenny, MS64 Red
No Period, Scarce Newman 5-Z
1773 1/2 P Virginia Halfpenny, No Period, N. 5-Z, W-1600, R.4,
MS64 Red PCGS. Eight harpstrings. Newman 5-Z is a scarce
variety noteworthy for a lump of die rust at the obverse center,
below the ear of King George. To our knowledge, this Choice
representative is the sole N. 5-Z example certified as full Red by
PCGS. The coin is predominantly olive-gold, but shows hints of
russet toning on the right reverse margin. Listed on page 16 of the
2026 Guide Book.Coin Index Numbers: (Variety PCGS# 913242, Base PCGS# 243)
