    Smooth Gem 1773 Virginia Halfpenny
    No Period, 7 Harp Strings

    1773 1/2P Virginia Halfpenny, No Period MS65 Brown NGC. Seven harp strings, Newman 3-F. The 1 in the date is noticeably repunched south. A later die state with a small die crack visible to the right of NIA. The mostly chocolate-brown fields are exceptionally smooth, almost prooflike in nature, with intricately detailed devices. A bit of mint red can be seen on the right side of the obverse. Listed on page 43 of the 2008 Guide Book.
