Gem Mint State 1773 Virginia Halfpenny

1773 1/2P Virginia Halfpenny, No Period MS65 Brown PCGS. Breen-181, Newman-3F. Seven Harpstrings. In colonial parlance, the period used within legends is known as a "stop" because it stops or separates the inscription. Therefore, this obverse is sometimes described as "No stop after S" as listed in the Breen Complete Encyclopedia. This example is a lovely copper with smooth medium brown surfaces on the obverse, and with considerable orange mint color on the reverse. The surfaces are almost prooflike in appearance. Listed on page 30 of the 2005 Guide Book. Population: 5 in 65, 5 finer (8/04).(#243)

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2ATL, PCGS# 243)
