Description
1773 Virginia Halfpenny, MS64 Red
Newman 27-J, W-1585
1773 1/2P Virginia Halfpenny, Period MS64 Red PCGS. CAC. Newman
27-J, W-1585, R.2. A splash of steel toning appears on the bust
of King George on this brilliant and satiny near-Gem. Both sides
have bright orange mint luster with satin surfaces. Struck slightly
off-center toward 10 o'clock, although insufficiently to warrant a
mint error designation. Despite the discovery of a 19th century
hoard, few full Red Virginia halfpennies survive today. Listed on
page 43 of the 2012 Guide Book. Population: 33 in 64 Red, 1
finer (5/11).Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2ATK, PCGS# 242, Greysheet# 69)
