1773 PENNY Virginia 'Penny' PR66 Brown PCGS. CAC. Newman 1-A. Ex: Ford. No Period, Six Harpstrings. 135.7 gn, per Ford catalog. The very rare proof pattern penny, identified by a wide beaded rim. The strike is needle-sharp, and the deep brown and steel-blue surfaces are gorgeously undisturbed by the passage of time. The 2013 Guide Book plate coin, page 45. Also photographed in Eric Newman's ANS-published 1956 attribution reference. PCGS has certified only eight pieces in all grades. Population: 2 in 66 Brown, 0 finer (6/12).
