    Description

Original and Partially Lustrous 1776 Continental Dollar, Breen-1089

1776 $1 Continental Dollar, CURENCY, Pewter AU58 PCGS. Breen-1089; Crosby Pl. VIII, 15; Newman 1-C. The first of two AU representatives of Breen-1089 that we are offering in this sale, this is a gorgeous, original survivor. Warm olive-gray patina blankets both sides, although flashes of original luster are still readily evident at direct angles. The obverse border beads are incomplete, as often seen on this variety, and a few of the devices over the upper left area of the same side are also missing some definition. The latter features suggest that this coin was struck from a partially filled die. A void in the planchet (once again, as struck) on the obverse at the sundial rebus is also mentioned for pedigree purposes. This lot includes ANACS Certificate of Authenticity # JNS020 that also grades this coin AU. Listed on page 33 of the current Guide Book. (NGC ID# 2AYN, PCGS# 791)
