Rhode Island Ship Token, AU55
Brass, No Wreath, W-1730

1778-1779 Token Rhode Island Ship Token, No Wreath, Brass, AU55 PCGS. Breen-1139, W-1730, R.3. A well defined deep walnut-brown example. Wear is mostly confined to the center of the ship. A few faded pinscratches intersect above the large British flag. Though most of VLUGTENDE is effaced from the medal (as on all examples except for the unique Ellsworth-Garrett-Roper specimen) the base of the letter G is present. The history of this issue is enigmatic, with theories of both English and Dutch origin. Listed on page 20 of the 2026 Guide Book.
