1779 Rhode Island Ship Token, AU58
    No Wreath, Struck in Brass

1779 TOKEN Rhode Island Ship Token, No Wreath, Brass, AU58 NGC. Betts-562, W-1730, R.3. Brass examples of the 1779 Rhode Island Ship token (or medal, as some argue) are decidedly scarcer than their copper counterparts. Three varieties are known. The first features VLUGTENDE, meaning fleeing, below the ship. This was later removed from the exergue, representing the No Wreath variety here. Finally, a wreath was added at the lower obverse to fill the void. Olive-brown surfaces retain bright brassy-gold highlights within the recesses. A trace of cabinet friction appears over razor-sharp devices. Listed on page 52 of the 2018 Guide Book.

The marketing was exceptional from the photos to the ads in Civil War Times and North South Trader for the cross over people!!! I have had many emails from my Civil War collecting fraternity that saw these and I saw them at the national show in Nashville/Franklin in early December.
