1779 Rhode Island Ship Token, AU58

1779 Token Rhode Island Ship Token, Wreath Below, Brass, AU58 PCGS. Betts-563, W-1740, R.3. Examples are known in pewter and brass, sometimes with a silver wash. The previously recorded copper alloy is no longer thought to exist, as all examples tested are brass, regardless of the patina. The current coin's slab insert reflects the old copper assertion. The medal is boldly detailed, showing barely any wear, with deep walnut-brown patina that allows glimpses of brassy color in the margins. Listed on page 20 of the 2026 Guide Book.
