1783 Nova Constellatio Copper, MS63 Brown
Crosby 2-B, Small U.S. Variety

1783 C NOVA Nova Constellatio Copper, Pointed Rays, Small U.S., Crosby 2-B, W-1865, R.2, MS63 Brown PCGS. The Crosby 2-B represents an obtainable Small U.S. Nova Constellatio variety. The speculative coinage was a private venture undertaken by influential trading partners William Constable, John Rucker, Robert Morris, and Gouverneur Morris. The coins were struck in Birmingham, England and shipped to New York. These sharply detailed, privately minted pieces with well-executed designs offered a bold contrast to the vast majority of circulating copper coinage and were accepted in domestic commerce. The present Select Uncirculated example features a sharp strike and glossy reddish-brown surfaces. Some small, shallow pitting is evident at the left obverse margin, but does not diminish the overall eye appeal of this impressive example. Listed on page 24 of the 2026 Guide Book. PCGS Population (Pointed Rays, Small U.S.): in 3 in 63, 1 finer (3/26).
Ex: Dallas Signature (Heritage, 4/2007), lot 134.
