1783 Nova Constellatio Copper, MS63 Brown
Crosby 3-C, Ex: Parmelee; Ryder; Boyd

1783 Nova Constellatio Copper, Small US, Blunt Rays, Crosby 3-C, W-1875, R.3, MS63 Brown PCGS. Nova Constellatio copper varieties continue to be attributed to Crosby numbers from a reference that is 150 years old. Crosby's research was remarkable, using the standard investigative techniques of the time. This Select Mint State example once served as the Guide Book plate coin. Both sides boast steel and chocolate-brown luster with faint blue overtones. A few trivial marks limit the grade. Listed on page 24 of the 2026 Guide Book.
Ex: Lorin G. Parmelee Collection (New York Coin & Stamp Co., 6/26/1890), part of lot 586; Hillyer Ryder; F.C.C. Boyd; John Jay Ford, Jr. Collection (Stack's, 10/2004), lot 38; FUN Signature (Heritage, 1/2006), lot 491.
