    1783 SHILNG Chalmers Shilling, Short Worm -- Repaired -- PCGS Genuine. VF Details. Breen-1011, W-1785, High R.4. The Chalmers coinage rank among the few early silver coinage issues of America, produced by John Chalmers of Annapolis, Maryland. At the time, the Spanish colonial pieces were subject to unscrupulous individuals who would attempt to divide the eight reales coins into five "quarters" or nine "eighths" to gain a extra profit. This light silvery-gray example has been tooled to diminish corrosion on both sides, and presents a noticeably cleaned appearance. Listed on page 53 of the 2018 Guide Book.
