1783 Chalmers Shilling, Fine 15
1783 SHLNG Chalmers Shilling, Short Worm Fine 15 NGC.
Breen-1011, W-1785, High R.4. Maryland silversmith John
Chalmers struck a series of very scarce to very rare silver issues,
ostensibly to ride the region of cut and worn-out Spanish-American
coin. The meaning of his enigmatic and original motifs have long
been debated by numismatists. The present stone-gray and
walnut-brow example was struck somewhat off center toward 2
o'clock. Marks are minimal and the peripheral legends are bold.
