    1783 Chalmers Shilling, VF Details
    Short Worm, W-1785

1783 SHLNG Chalmers Shilling, Short Worm -- Reverse Damage -- NGC Details. VF. Breen-1011, W-1785, High R.4. Maryland silversmith John Chalmers believed it was his public duty to rid the locality of worn-out Spanish-American silver coin. Chalmers' various private silver issues must have been accepted in commerce, since they are virtually unknown in Uncirculated grades. The present steel-gray example has a scrape effacing the reverse peripheral ornament, but the remainder of the coin is unmarked. Wear is even except for a smooth area on the lower left reverse. Listed on page 51 of the 2015 Guide Book.

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2AUU, PCGS# 596)
