1784 Ugly Head Copper, Poor 1
Baker-8, Rare Guide Book Variety

1784 Washington Ugly Head, Copper, Baker-8, W-10590, Musante GW-56, R.7, Poor 1 PCGS. Not much is known about the Washington Ugly Head tokens except that they are rare. The variety was unknown to the American numismatic community prior to 1860, when it was described in the July 1860 issue of Historical Magazine. Although the Guide Book calls it a satirical medal, it may instead be the case that the execution was amateur. This is a worn example with moderately granular golden-brown, steel-blue, and rose-red surfaces. The bust is fully outlined, but most of the remainder of the design is worn smooth. Listed on page 78 of the 2024 Guide Book.
