    1785 Miller 3.1-L Connecticut Copper, XF45
    A Strong Condition Census Piece

1785 CONNCT Connecticut, Mailed Bust Right, M. 3.1-L, W-2325, High R.4, XF45 NGC. 128.0 grains. This example was graded About Uncirculated in the Ford catalog. The XF45 grade of NGC falls in line with our own opinion, although a case for the AU grade is not unreasonable. Both sides of this glossy light chocolate example show minor planchet defects. Nicely centered with the date and all legends complete. An impressive piece, clearly high in the Condition Census, and far finer than most others we have seen, including the Partrick duplicate. Obverse 3.1 appears on three different varieties, 3.1-A.3, 3.1-F.3, and 3.1-L. Reverse L is also found on Miller 3.2-L, another variety that is rated High R.4. Listed on page 63 of the 2020 Guide Book.
Ex: John J. Ford, Jr. (Stack's, 5/2005), lot 202; Jon Hanson (5/10/2005); Donald G. Partrick.
