Description

1786 Connecticut Copper, MS61 Brown
The Finest Known Miller 5.11-R

1786 Connecticut, Mailed Bust Left, M. 5.11-R, W-2660, R.5, MS61 Brown NGC. Ex: Ford - Donald G. Patrick Collection. 36.6 grains. This impressive Mint State Connecticut copper is undoubtedly the finest known 1786 Miller 5.11-R. The 1975 EAC sale and the Perkins Collection each had an example graded Very Fine, while VG examples were included in the Taylor and Norweb sales. The variety was missing from the Oechsner Collection. This lovely piece has splendid light golden-brown surfaces with some olive highlights. A dark toning splash appears on the reverse, with a poorly stabilized corrosion spot just above the exergual line. Strike weakness is apparent at the upper obverse and lower reverse. Tinges of faded mint red are noted primarily on the reverse. Listed on page 31 of the 2026 Guide Book.
Ex: Donald G. Partrick Collection of Connecticut Coppers (Heritage, 11/2020), lot 44073.
