    1787 Fugio Cent, MS62 Brown
    N. 8-X, Pointed Rays
    Double Struck

    1787 1C Fugio Cent, STATES UNITED, 4 Cinquefoils, Pointed Rays MS62 Brown PCGS. CAC. N. 8-X, W-6750, R.3. Here is a Fugio cent with multiple mint errors, though none are listed on the PCGS insert. The reverse is rotated double struck, noticeable on the rings and WE ARE ONE and very prominent on STATES UNITED. The obverse shows no doubling since it was an anvil die and remained stationary while the hammer (reverse) die rotated between strikes. Both strikes appear off center toward 4 o'clock with an arc of unstruck surface near 9 o'clock. However, the designs are complete aside from the right-side dentils. Finally, a large die break affects the obverse legends near o'clock. A smooth tan-brown example likely from the Bank of New York hoard. Listed on page 87 of the 2014 Guide Book.
