Pristine MS66 Brown 1787 Fugio Cent
Pointed Rays, STATES UNITED, N. 13-X

1787 1C Fugio Cent, STATES UNITED, 4 Cinquefoils, Pointed Rays MS66 Brown PCGS. CAC. N. 13-X, W-6855, R.2. The Bank of New York holdings have provided a number of Uncirculated Newman 13-X Fugio cents, identified by the vertical crack at 6 o'clock on the reverse and a Y centered above the N in BUSINESS. But most such pieces are in MS62 to MS64 grades, typically limited in grade by toned planchet striations. The present lot, however, was struck on a virtually flawless planchet. In addition, the strike is consistently crisp, there are no abrasions, and carbon is nearly absent. Traces of mint red cling to design elements. Listed on page 87 of the 2013 Guide Book. The sole CAC example at the MS66 level. Population: 3 in 66 Brown, none finer (10/12).
