    Description

    1787 Massachusetts Cent, MS61 Brown
    'Horned Eagle,' Ryder 2b-A
    Rare in Mint State

1787 1C Massachusetts Cent, Horned Eagle MS61 Brown NGC. Ryder 2b-A, W-6040, R.3. The eponymous horn-shaped break atop the eagle's head also extends below the eye. Other small reverse breaks are present, especially on the lower border, suggesting the die was improperly annealed prior to use. This is a glossy deep brown example with exemplary surfaces. Mint State Massachusetts cents are rare. Listed on page 59 of the 2014 Guide Book. Census: 1 in 61 Brown, 1 finer (3/14).
