Description

1787 Connecticut Copper, MS63 Brown
'Skeleton Hand' M. 33.36-T.2
Single-Finest Certified

1787 Connecticut Copper, Draped Bust Left, Skeleton Hand, M. 33.36-T.2, W-3900, R.2, MS63 Brown PCGS. The 1787 T.1, T.2, and k.4 reverses are known as "Skeleton Hand" varieties because the hand supporting the Liberty pole has oversized claw-like fingers. Miller 33.36-T.2 is not rare in VF and lower grades, but Mint State pieces are rare. The only two we are aware of are the Archangel and Partrick specimens, both of which are certified as MS62 Brown. Thus, the present lot lays claim to single-finest certified. Both sides show glimmers of the original Red color in design recesses. Marks are essentially absent. Struck a few degrees off-center toward 7 o'clock, favoring the date. The motifs are typically struck, but the legends, branch, and Skeleton Hand are sharp. Listed on page 62 of the 2025 Guide Book.

Coin Index Numbers: (Variety PCGS# 686340, Base PCGS# 370)
