    1787 Miller 29.1-p Connecticut Copper, MS61 Brown

    1787 Connecticut, Draped Bust Left, M. 29.1-p, W-3155, R.5, MS61 Brown NGC. 139 grains. Obverse 29.1 is known with reverse dies a.2, n, and p. Reverse die p is found with obverse dies 16.5 and 29.1. This extraordinary chestnut-brown example has splashes of emerald toning at the center of the reverse. Myriad marks on the obverse effigy remain from the planchet. Traces of ebony verdigris are noted on the obverse of this impressive Mint State Connecticut copper, one of several dozen true Uncirculated pieces offered from the Donald G. Partrick Collection.

    NGC has certified 97 Mint State Connecticut coppers in grades from MS60 to MS65, and 84 of those certification events are offered in the present sale, including: four of six for 1785; all three of 1786; 58 of 68 for 1787; and 19 of 20 for 1788. The colonial type collector will never have a more important opportunity to acquire an Uncirculated piece from this series. For comparison, the next closest was the Ford Collection that had just 15 Mint State pieces. Listed on page 66 of the 2021 Guide Book.
