1787 Miller 30-X.1 Connecticut Copper, VF Details
    Possibly in the Condition Census

1787 Connecticut, Draped Bust Left, M. 30-X.1, W-3170, R.6--Reverse Scratched--NGC Details. VF. Obverse 30 is known with reverse dies X.1 and hh.1. Reverse die X.1 is found with obverse dies 30, 32.2, and 32.7. Ebony encrustation appears at the upper obverse and in places on the reverse of this olive-brown and tan copper. Old reverse scratches are insignificant. The strike is nicely centered with complete legends and a full date. The Miller 30-X.1 is an elusive variety and this piece falls just below the Condition Census. Robert Martin tracked about 20 examples in his research, all in the AG to VF grade range. We have only previously offered two examples of the variety, a Fine Details coin in the Keller Collection, and a similar Fine Details coin in the Newman Collection. A VF30 coin from Collection SLT is the best that appears in the Stack's Bowers online archives. Listed on page 66 of the 2021 Guide Book.
Ex: Tom Rinaldo (4/19/1997); Donald G. Partrick.
