    1787 Miller 33.3-W.1 Connecticut Copper, AU53
    Condition Census

1787 Connecticut, Draped Bust Left, M. 33.3-W.1, W-3400, High R.4, AU53 NGC. Likely the terminal die state with cracks through AUCTORI, across the portrait, and at the upper reverse, but most notably with a massive die break from the rim to the olive leaves. Two planchet defects below the bust confirm the Oechsner pedigree. Robert Martin wrote in his notebook Anthony Terranova was the buyer and noted of the piece itself: "OK XF+ defects not bad." Reddish-brown surfaces are glossy with a bit of strike softness before the throat. Smooth and showing minimal evidence of friction. Listed on page 66 of the 2021 Guide Book.
Ex: Herbert Oechsner Collection (Stack's, 9/1988), lot 1111; Anthony Terranova; Jon Hanson (12/20/2000); Donald G. Partrick.
