    1787 Miller 4-L Connecticut Copper, AU55
    Early Die State

1787 Connecticut, Horned Bust, M. 4-L, W-2810, R.1, AU55 NGC. 142.6 grains. This example represents a slightly later die state than observed in the previous offering, showing a small crescent of the horn below the chin on the obverse. All five of Partrick's Connecticut Horned Bust coppers grade AU55 or AU58. While the variety ranks among the most plentiful in the Connecticut series, high-grade pieces are elusive. We know of just five or six Mint State examples, and perhaps a dozen AU pieces. This lovely copper has light brown toning on the obverse and chestnut-brown on the reverse with pristine surfaces and traces of luster. Listed on page 65 of the 2021 Guide Book.
    Ex: Lester Merkin (10/1973), lot 148; Stack's (11/1993), lot 100; Donald G. Partrick.
