1787 Miller 33.44-W.3 Connecticut Copper, Ex Taylor

1787 COPPER Connecticut Copper, Draped Bust Left AU50 PCGS. M. 33.44-W.3, R.6. In its appearance in the Taylor collection, the present piece was graded AU50 and described as "Exceptional condition: surfaces smooth and glossy (rough beneath first C), free from porosity. An exceptionally smooth reverse surface. Perfectly centered, with a full date. Very little apparent wear, this piece virtually as struck... Certainly within the condition census for the variety, and equally certainly, within the high end of it." Far finer than the Ford coin, earlier from the Miller Collection, and graded Fine. Equal in quality to the 1975 Pine Tree coin. Medium brown and steel-blue in color, the fields display a few wispy hairlines. Listed on page 60 of the 2006 Guide Book.
Ex: Herdman Collection (Bowers and Ruddy, 12/1977), lot 5054; Frederick B. Taylor Collection (Bowers and Merena, 3/1987), lot 2616.
