Description

1787 Connecticut Copper, AU53
Popular Muttonhead Variety

Miller 1.2-C

1787 COPPER Connecticut Copper, Muttonhead AU53 NGC. M. 1.2-C, W-2720, R.3. The Whitman Colonial Encyclopedia refers to the present die marriage as one of the most distinctive and famous issues in the Connecticut series. The mailed bust left is unusually large and bears a serene expression. The reverse is nearly as well known, since it is the only die in the series with a topless Liberty. Relatively early in the die's life, the dies were lapped, severely weakening the legends. They are faint on the present example, as made. The medium brown surfaces are well-defined given the die state, though the centers are incompletely brought up. Nicely centered and nearly free from marks. The upper right quadrant is somewhat granular. Listed on page 61 of the 2014 Guide Book..
