    1787 Miller 41-ii Connecticut Copper, AU58
    Ex: Ryder-Boyd-Ford, The Finest Known

1787 COPPER Connecticut, Draped Bust Left, AUCTOPI, M. 41-ii, W-4235, R.4, AU58 NGC. 125.7 grains. Obverse die 41 is known with reverse die ii. Reverse die ii is known with obverse die 41. When this coin was last sold in 1994 as part of the Ford holdings, cataloger Michael Hodder called it "Certainly the finest auctioned, possibly the finest known. This specimen is nicer than every one of the 30 others we have ever seen (including the Ford primary coin)." In the 26 years since, not a single example has turned up to challenge this borderline Uncirculated representative. Eric Newman's was an AU50, ex: Hall-Brand. Strongly struck and perfectly centered on a smooth, glossy brown flan. Only the extreme centers show a touch of softness. Both sides feature blundered legends, with AUCTOPI on the obverse and ETIIB on the reverse. Listed on page 66 of the 2021 Guide Book.
Ex: St. Louis Stamp & Coin Co. (10/1/1926); Hillyer Ryder; F.C.C. Boyd; John J. Ford, Jr. (Stack's, 6/1994), lot 177; Jon Hanson (6/18/1994); Donald G. Partrick.

With the superb catalog, a masterwork prepared by Mark Borckhardt, the sale was destined to meet all of my expectations; that it did, and then some. Be assured that I would highly recommend Heritage Auctions to any of my associates contemplating the sale
