    1787 Miller 33.21-k.4 Connecticut Copper, Fine 12
    Classic Series Rarity

1787 COPPER Connecticut, Draped Bust Left, M. 33.21-k.4, W-3680, High R.6, Fine 12 NGC. 134.1 grains. Obverse die 33.21 is known with reverse dies Z.13, k.4, and EE. Reverse die k.4 is known with obverse dies 33.21 and 37.6. One of the great rarities of the Connecticut copper series, the M. 33.21-k.4 die marriage was (and is) missing from many fine collections. Robert M. Martin's collection featured a memorable, double-struck example, recently certified VF25 PCGS. The only other comparably documented coins are the Twin Leaf example (certified as tooled with VF Details), the weakly struck 1975 EAC coin, and this - the former Perkins example, certified Fine 12. Finely granular surfaces display a planchet flaw from cheek to neck along the jawline, and an area of roughness at the upper left reverse. Golden-tan surfaces display splashes of russet-brown toning. Listed on page 66 of the 2021 Guide Book.
    Ex: J.J. Teaparty (1/1983); George Perkins Collection (Stack's, 1/2000), lot 394; Jon Hanson (1/12/2000); Donald G. Partrick.

The pre-sale publicity was more than I imagined, and the actual catalog better than I had expected - and my expectations were high!
