Description

1787 Immunis Columbia Copper, AU55
Eagle Reverse, W-5680

1787 COPPER Immunis Columbia, Eagle Reverse, AU55 PCGS. W-5680, High R.4. Crosby Pl. VIII, 8. Breen-1137. Medium dark brown in color and without the usual spots or surface problems. The strike is stronger than often encountered with sharper details on the eagle and Liberty. Struck a hair off center which allowed the tops of the letters to be on the planchet, an unusual and desirable feature for this issue. The bottoms of the digits in the date are slightly off the planchet. Identifiable by a jagged scrape touching and below the O of COLUMBIA. A scarce issue which is difficult to obtain so well-preserved. This issue is found in the 2019 edition of A Guide Book Of United States Coins on page 67.
