Description

1787 COPPER New Jersey Copper, Small Planchet, Plain Shield XF45 PCGS. Maris 43-d, W-5225, R.1. The obverse is double struck with an obvious clockwise spread. Apparently, the obverse (hammer) die rotated between blows while the coin and reverse die remained stationary. An unabraded chocolate-brown example with a spot above the plow beam and minor obverse rim dings at 3 and 5 o'clock. Listed on page 66 of the 2012 Guide Book.
