Description
Rare VF Details 1787 Excelsior Token
Eagle on Globe Facing Left, W-5785
1787 COPPER New York Excelsior Copper, Eagle Left --
Environmental Damage -- PCGS Genuine. VF Details. Breen-980,
W-5785, R.6. All Excelsior token varieties are very rare. These
are associated with New York, since the obverse depicts the New
York Coat of Arms and the reverse eagle is reminiscent of the
extremely rare Brasher doubloons. The present olive-brown and
copper-red example exhibits substantial design detail but has rough
surfaces, particularly on the reverse and the obverse periphery.
Listed on page 64 of the 2013 Guide Book.Ex: U.S. Public Auction (Lester Merkin, 11/1968), lot 77.
