Description
1787 Nova Eborac Copper, VF25
W-5750, Large Head, Figure Left
1787 COPPER Nova Eborac Copper, Large Head, W-5750, R.6, VF25
PCGS. A large mintage of New York coppers dated 1787 appeared
struck from letter punches that matched those used by Ephraim
Brasher and John Bailey, suggesting those two renowned
silversmiths/goldsmiths operated a mint of sorts in New York City
producing the Nova Eborac (New York) coppers. and perhaps other
issues. This is an example of the very scarce Large Head facing
right variety. On the reverse, the seated figure faces left. The
workmanship is better on the Nova Eborac coppers compared to other
New York minters. Well-centered on a smooth planchet, this
chocolate-brown example shows slight weakness at the centers but
otherwise choice surfaces for the assigned VF25 grade. There are no
signs of corrosion or granularity on either side. Listed on page 38
of the 2026 Guide Book. PCGS Population: 3 in 25, 10 finer
(3/26).From The Alamo Collection of U.S. Colonial Issues.
