1787 Fugio Cent, STATES UNITED, MS61 Brown
Raised Rim Guide Book Variety, Newman 19-Z
    Ex: Ryder-Boyd-Ford

1787 FUGIO Fugio Cent, STATES UNITED, Raised Rim MS61 Brown PCGS. N. 19-Z, W-6975, R.5. Ex: Ryder-Boyd-Ford. 169.8 grains. This rare and sought-after variety features 'raised' inside and outside bands on the central reverse label. Newman's Z reverse has been called a pattern die, having been first paired with the Cross After Date, No Cinquefoils obverse. Chocolate and reddish-brown surfaces are strongly struck and largely smooth with a few areas of granularity due to planchet imperfections. The dentils are nearly complete, save for the lower obverse. Unquestionably one of the finest Newman 19-Z examples extant. Listed on page 90 of the 2020 Guide Book.
Ex: St. Louis Stamp & Coin Company, October 1, 1926; Hillyer C. Ryder; F.C.C. Boyd Estate; John J. Ford, Jr. Collection, Part I (Stack's, 10/2003), lot 311; Baltimore Auction (Stack's Bowers, 3/2019), lot 355.
