    Description

Scarce Gem New Haven Restrike Fugio Cent

1787 Fugio Cent, New Haven Restrike MS65 Red and Brown PCGS. These so-called restrikes were produced in 1860, nearly 75 years after the Broome and Platt store originally struck Fugio cents. Three pairs of original dies were discovered in the New Haven area, and all of these interesting pieces exhibit traces of die rust after being struck from the decades-old dies. This is a well balanced example with only trivial mushiness at the center of the obverse. The protected areas are still a vibrant pumpkin-orange color, and only the highpoints display obvious mellowing. Listed on page 64 of the current Guide Book.
