Description

1787 New Jersey Copper, XF45
Maris 6-C, Pattern Shield

1787 New Jersey Copper, Pattern Shield, M. 6-C, W-5040, Low R.5, XF45 NGC. No Plow Sprig. Maris 6-C is the sole 1787 New Jersey die marriage that uses the reverse die used to strike the rare 1786 Maris 3-C, 4-C, and 5-C patterns. This splendid example is the finest of the marriage to appear in a Heritage auction in this century. The shield and horse head confirm moderate wear, but hints of orange-gold luster emerge from the unblemished steel-gray surfaces. Listed on page 39 of the 2026 Guide Book.
