    1788 Massachusetts Cent, XF45
    Scarce, No Period W-6380 Variety

1788 1C Massachusetts Cent, No Period XF45 NGC. Ryder 13-N, W-6380, High R.4. The Massachusetts coinage was well received by the public and circulated widely for a long period of time. The W-6380 variety is characterized by the position of the arrow tip located to the right of the tunic on the obverse, and the lack of a period after MASSACHUSETTS on the reverse. The variety is scarce in all grades, and rare above VF. This specimen is sharply detailed, with pleasing brown surfaces, and no trace of granularity. Listed on page 57 of the 2011 Guide Book. MRB XF40.
