Description
1788 Connecticut Copper, AU55
M. 12.1-E, Impressive Mailed Bust Left Coin
1788 CONNCT Connecticut Copper, Mailed Bust Left, M. 12.1-E,
W-4515, R.5, AU55 PCGS. The 1788 Obverse 12 is similar to
Obverse 7 for the year, although six-pointed stars decorate this M.
12.1 obverse while the similar Obverse 7 has five-pointed stars.
From a technical perspective, this early copper is an exceptional
coin for the Choice About Uncirculated grade. Evenly struck
medium-brown surfaces are essentially carbon-free and unabraded. A
few Mint-made planchet streaks cross the coin, mostly visible on
the upper reverse, and the obverse is a bit misaligned toward 7
o'clock -- all minor imperfections for any Connecticut copper. This
variety is listed on page 33 of the 2026 Guide Book. PCGS
