Description

Double Struck M. 2-D 1788 Connecticut Copper
VF35, Prominent Side-to-Side Flan Crack

1788 COPPER Connecticut Copper, Mailed Bust Right--Double Struck--VF35 NGC. M. 2-D, W-4405, R.1. This is the only Mailed Bust Right variety with a period after AUCTORI. The reverse was struck from a die used on a counterfeit British halfpenny (Vlack 13-88CT). This is an earlier die state as it lacks the often-seen die cud at 7 o'clock on the obverse. Prominent double striking is evident on both sides. The flan cracked on the right side of the obverse and left side of the reverse. The surfaces are mildly porous with no mentionable abrasions. Listed on page 60 of the 2011 Guide Book. MRB XF40.
Purchased from French's (10/10/1953) for $2.
