Rare 1788 Connecticut-Vermont Mule
1788 COPPER Connecticut Copper, Small Head Fine 15 ANACS. M.
1-I, W-4400, also RR-39, Bressett 25-U, W-2265, High R.5. This
curious Machin's Mills die pairing mules a Connecticut obverse and
a Vermont reverse. A late die state with the obverse failing on the
left field and on the dentils near 5 o'clock. The center of the
reverse die is sinking. Struck from widely rotated dies.
Chestnut-brown high points contrast with deep brown fields. Mildly
granular but unabraded. Listed on page 60 of the 2011 Guide
Book. MRB Fine 12.
