    Description

    1788 Miller 13.1-A.1 Connecticut Copper, AU58
The Finest Known; From the Garrett Collection

1788 COPPER Connecticut, Mailed Bust Left, CONNLC, M. 13.1-A.1, W-4535, High R.4, AU58 NGC. 120.0 grains. Both dies are unique to M. 13.1-A.1. This Choice AU Connecticut copper is pedigreed from the Garrett Collection and features choice surfaces with lovely light brown color, showing splashes of blue, violet, and olive toning. Centering is slightly imperfect with the right obverse and right reverse legends partially off the planchet. Overall, this is an exceptional example of a variety that, while not particularly rare, is rarely found in higher grades. John Ford and Eric P. Newman, for example, each had coins that graded Fine. The Martin, Keller, and Oechsner Collections each had VF examples. This is quite the opportunity for a Connecticut specialist. Listed on page 66 of the 2021 Guide Book.
Ex: Garrett Collection; Johns Hopkins University (Bowers and Ruddy, 10/1980), lot 1378; Jon Hanson (7/16/2003); Donald G. Partrick.
