    1788 Miller 12.1-F.1 Connecticut Copper, MS62 Brown
    Probably the Finest Known

1788 COPPER Connecticut, Mailed Bust Left, M. 12.1-F.1, W-4520, R.5, MS62 Brown NGC. Obverse die 12.1 is found with reverse dies E and F.1 while reverse die F.1 is known only in this die combination. The finest Miller 12.1-F.1 that we know of, with only one Mint State rival from the 1975 EAC sale that retains mint red, per the description in that catalog. Most others are in lower grades, such as the XF coin from the Ford Collection. A few lines of natural planchet lamination are evident on both sides of this lustrous Mint State Connecticut copper. The surfaces are free of post-striking marks, corrosion, or other anomalies. Lovely olive-brown has traces of accompanying blue and violet toning. The obverse is nicely centered with only the tops of CON off the flan. The reverse is imperfectly centered, showing only the tops of the four digits in the date. While slightly weak at the lower reverse, the remaining design elements are nicely defined. Listed on page 66 of the 2021 Guide Book.
