    1788 Connecticut Copper, MS61 Brown
    The Finest Known Miller 12.2-E

1788 COPPER Connecticut, Mailed Bust Left, M. 12.2-E, W-4530, R.6, MS61 Brown NGC. Obverse die 12.2 is found with reverse dies C and E. Reverse die E is found with obverse dies 7, 9, 12.1, and 12.2. Minor planchet lamination appears on the mahogany surfaces of this splendid Mint State 1788 Connecticut copper. The Miller 12.2-E is rated R.6 with perhaps two dozen examples known across all grades. However, there is not even a rumor of a second Mint State example. The second finest appears to be the AU50 PCGS Twin Leaf Collection coin. This well-centered impression shows complete legends and only the bottoms of the date digits are off the flan. Slight peripheral lamination is evident on the reverse, especially below and to the right. Listed on page 66 of the 2021 Guide Book.
Ex: Jon Hanson (7/16/2003); Donald G. Partrick.
