Description
1789 TOKEN Mott Token, Thick Planchet, Plain Edge MS62 Brown NGC. Breen-1020. In his Complete Encyclopedia, Walter Breen recorded three different weight standards for the plain edge Mott tokens. Breen-1020 is called a thick planchet piece, with weights in the range of 163 to 171 grains. Breen-1021 is recorded as a thin planchet variant, with weights ranging from 108 to 122 grains. Breen-1022 is called a "cent weight" variety, with weights approximating 208 grains. We are unable to state if this is Breen-1020 or 1022, in the absence of an actual weight on the NGC holder. This dark brown and steel piece is a late die state with a massive die break at the upper left corner of the clock, and with that die severely bulged, causing extreme weakness on the other side. Listed on page 70 of the 2010 Guide Book.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2B5K, PCGS# 603, GSID# 244)
