    Description

1791 Washington Large Eagle Cent, MS63
    Baker-15

1791 CENT Washington Large Eagle Cent MS63 Brown PCGS. Baker-15, W-10610, Musante GW-15, R.2. This boldly struck and semiprooflike example is principally medium brown and steel-blue, although glimpses of mint red reside in protected areas of the reverse. The obverse has a few tiny and unimportant gray spots. Teenaged engraver John Gregory Hancock of the Westwood Mint struck the Large Eagle and Small Eagle cents in an attempt to secure a Federal coinage contract. Instead, the United States established its own mint in 1793. Listed on page 83 of the 2020 Guide Book. Population: 26 in 63 Brown, 36 finer (9/19).
Ex: National Money Show Signature (Heritage, 3/2008), lot 116.
