Description
1792 Washington Small Eagle Copper, Fine 12
Famous Peter Getz Pattern, Musante GW-22
1792 CENT Washington Getz Pattern Cent, Small Eagle, Copper,
Plain Edge, Fine 12 PCGS. Baker-25, W-10775, GW-22, High
R.5. In the first volume of Medallic Washington, Neil
Musante explores the history of these coins that are attributed to
the workshop of Lancaster, Pennsylvania artist Peter Getz. Although
never adopted as an official coinage design, these popular patterns
feature a classic portrait of our first president. This example
either circulated or was carried as a pocket piece for many years.
An old, rather prominent obverse scratch angles across the cheek
and lower lip into the field on the left with a trivial obverse rim
bruise at 7 o'clock. Listed on page 49 of the 2026 Guide
Book.Ex: Steve Glenn Collection/Central States Signature (Heritage, 4/2006), lot 199. Possibly from an Early American History Auction, circa 1999, per George Fuld.
From The Alamo Collection of U.S. Colonial Issues.
