Description
1794 Talbot, Allum & Lee / Howard Mule
W-8720, MS64 Brown
1794 1C Talbot, Allum & Lee Mule, Howard Reverse, Lettered Edge,
MS64 Brown PCGS. Breen-1049, W-8720, R.4. The Talbot, Allum &
Lee obverse of the W-8580 variety is paired to a reverse showing a
left-facing portrait of John Howard, a fellow of the Royal Society
(F.R.S.). This muling is known both with and without a lettered
edge. The former variant, here offered, is the most often seen.
This Choice example displays medium auburn patina with hints of
copper-red peaking through in the peripheries. The Howard side is
well-struck, although the Talbot central figure is poorly defined,
as usual. This piece is the sole finest certified at PCGS (7/15).Coin Index Numbers: (PCGS# 976)
