Original Dies, W-9100

1796 MEDAL Castorland Medal, Silver AU58 PCGS. Breen-1058, W-9100, R.5. Castorland was a planned community in upstate New York, intended to provide a home for French emigrants fleeing the French Revolution. There is little die rust and no bulge on the present specimen, which was struck from the original dies. This bold example has reflective silver surfaces beneath deep steel-blue and iridescent toning on both sides. Population: 5 in 58, 10 finer (4/13).
Ex: Long Beach Signature (Heritage, 6/2010), lot 33, which realized $4,887.50.
