    1796 Myddelton Token in Copper
    PR64 Brown, W-8900
    Very Rare Kentucky Issue

1796 Token Myddelton Token, Copper PR64 Brown PCGS. W-8900, R.7. This well-made token was struck in both copper and silver. The silver variety is rare, but the copper variant is rarer still, with only an estimated ten pieces. The maker was the Soho Mint, on account for Phillip Myddelton, an English subject who promoted a community on land he owned in Kentucky. For his efforts, Myddelton was briefly imprisoned in England. Despite its reference to Kentucky, the reverse die was later muled with a Copper Company of Upper Canada die (W-8910). Listed on page 79 of the 2020 Guide Book.
